As National Preparedness Month draws to a close, Whitfield County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), including the North Georgia Health District, invite the public to Community Disaster Awareness Day at Home Depot at 875 Shugart Road in Dalton from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 1st. Community Disaster Awareness Day is being held in conjunction with Home Depot’s Safety Day and Whitfield’s PrepareAthon! campaign. Join this fun family event and learn how to prepare for and protect yourself, your family and your property before, during and after disaster strikes. The Gilmer County Health Department and community partners will conduct their annual Drive-by Flu Shot Clinic on Thursday, October 6th from 8 AM to 4 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church while practicing local emergency Point of Dispensing operations. 4-in-1 Quadrivalent Flu Shots will be $25 and Fluzone High Dose Flu Shots for people 65 and older will be $58. Cash, checks, Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana and United Healthcare Insurance will be accepted. The CDC recommends getting a flu shot each year.
